Foreign investors flock to Aussie property

Asian commercial property investors could prove a key target market for brokers as the weaker Australian dollar and softening property yields spark a return to our shores.

According to new analysis released by CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) yesterday, institutional and private investors from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Korea are driving demand in Australia’s commercial markets.

CBRE senior managing director Richard Butler said the trend mirrored the flurry of Asian investment activity which occurred during the last downturn in the mid-1990s.

“Australia is proving a popular choice for foreign buyers due to a range of factors, including the relative strength of the local economy, the weaker Australian dollar, low interest rates and the recent easing in investment yields, together with transparency of the market and the ease of undertaking transactions,” he said.
