Tech-savvy brokers ‘will ultimately win the day’

Almost half of brokers say they’re unhappy with their current aggregator software platforms and one third would switch aggregators in search of a better option.

The results, from an ongoing poll on The Adviser website, appear to validate last year’s Switching Aggregators survey, which ranked technology and software as the prime reason brokers would switch.

To highlight the impact technology now has on a broker’s business – from software, to actual devices, to the importance of social media – The Adviser is once again publishing its annual Software and Technology Report.

The report takes the pulse of brokers’ use and attitude towards tech and, best of all, it’s not too late for you to take part in 2014’s survey. To participate, simply click here.

Some of the major points to come out of last year’s report included:

* Over 55 per cent of brokers currently do not use social media

* Almost one in five brokers agreed social media had driven new business

* Just shy of 80 per cent of brokers said software was very important to their overall business, but just over 28 per cent claimed that software played no part in the profitability of their business

* The laptop (59.6 per cent) had surpassed the desktop PC (18.4 per cent) as brokers’ tech weapon of choice

The Adviser’s editor, John Bastick, said that with technology pervading all parts of our business and personal lives, the results of the Software and Technology Report form one of the magazine’s essential reads of the year.

“You can never dismiss the traditional ways of doing business – great customer relations and communication – but it’s the savvy brokers who are incorporating technology into all facets of their businesses that will ultimately win the day,” Mr Bastick said.

“What’s interesting about these technology surveys is that brokers appear keen to embrace the ‘new’ but arguably don’t always understand how to best use it for their businesses.”

All brokers who complete the survey go into the running to win an iPad Mini 16GB Wi-Fi. Hurry – the survey closes this week, with all the results to be published in the September edition of The Adviser.
