Media reports surfaced this morning suggesting ANZ was eyeing off AFG as a potential acquisition target. However, AFG’s general manager sales and operations Mark Hewitt has categorically denied the reports, labelling them “totally unfounded”.
“We are not in discussions with ANZ,” Mr Hewitt told The Adviser.
In the wake of NAB’s purchase of PLAN Choice and FAST, AFG has been the constant subject of acquisition rumours in recent times, with the Perth based aggregator repeatedly insisting it is not for sale.
In September 2009, AFG’s managing director Brett McKeon lay to rest any speculation that AFG could be the next on the banks’ radar.
“The simple fact is we are not for sale,” Mr McKeon said.
