The Aussie Extra Mile will see the major broker raise funds for food rescue organisation OzHarvest, by encouraging marathon participants to complete an extra loop after their race.
Runners can run, jog, or – perhaps more likely – walk the 1-kilometre loop after the official finish line, alone or with friends or family members who have supported them during the race.
And for every completed loop, Aussie Home Loans will make a donation to OzHarvest.
The initiative will also include a one-off donation from Aussie Home Loans, equivalent to 2,000 meals, to mark the first runner to complete the Extra Mile.
Brokers from Aussie Home Loans South Australian branches including Firle, Gawler, Marion, Prospect, and Unley will also be on hand to support participants taking on the loop.
Aussie Home Loans general manager of South Australia, Corey Drew, said the beauty of the activation was that every participant had a chance to make a difference.
“For every runner or walker who completes the marathon and chooses to take the Aussie Extra Mile activation loop set up after the finish line, Aussie will generously donate four meals per person to OzHarvest,” Drew said.
Rachel Hibble, OzHarvest South Australia state manager, said the need for initiatives that help provide relief for those in need has never been so great.
“The rising cost of living is affecting all corners of the community, with so many people doing it tough,” Hibble said.
“Many people seeking our services are doing so for the first time ever. We are doing our best to get as much food as possible to those in need but cannot keep up with growing demand.
“Every dollar donated counts – an extra kilometre can help us get four more meals to those in need.”
