Major brokerage announces leadership changes

Mortgage Choice has appointed a range of new leaders to its team, including a new general manager for distribution and general manager of operations, among others.

Major brokerage Mortgage Choice has made changes to its leadership team as the REA Group-owned business “progresses its transition to a single network under one brand by the end of 2022”.  This continues its work subsuming the Smartline brokerage under the Mortgage Choice brand, which began earlier this year.

New GM, distribution

Aaron Slater — who had been working as general manager, operations — has been named as the general manager, distribution for the broker network.

Mr Slater first joined REA Group in July 2019 as a management consultant before taking on the role of chief operating officer for Smartline Personal Mortgage Advisers in May 2020.

Following REA’s acquisition of Mortgage Choice, he was named GM of operations.

Prior to joining REA Group, he held senior finance, strategy, business development and operations roles at Australia Post, Telstra, Lonely Planet, BBC Worldwide and Walt Disney.

Speaking of the appointment, Anthony Waldron, chief executive of Mortgage Choice and Financial Services at REA Group, said: “Aaron brings extensive experience in e-commerce, telecommunications, digital, media and financial services industries.

“His expertise in leading operational teams, strategic planning and building relationships means he will hit the ground running in his new role.”

New GM, operations

Replacing Mr Slater as general manager, operations, will be Emma Dupont-Brown.

Ms Dupont-Brown, who was responsible for Mortgage Choice’s product and communications function prior to going on parental leave earlier this year, will start her new position once returning to work in November.

She has a range of experience in financial services, having run distribution functions at NAB and Westpac previously.

Mr Waldron stated: “Emma’s wealth of experience and deep knowledge of the Mortgage Choice business makes her well placed to work with our operations team to continue developing and implementing strategic improvements and projects for the business.”

New EM, corporate communications, events & franchise marketing

Sally Chadwick, who joined Mortgage Choice in December last year to fill Ms Dupont Brown’s role while she was on parental leave, has been permanently appointed to the role of executive manager corporate communications, events & franchise marketing.

Prior to joining Mortgage Choice, Ms Chadwick spent seven years at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in senior communications and changed roles.

The Mortgage Choice CEO said she had “made a significant impact” on the way Mortgage Choice runs its communications, events and franchise marketing functions, and “built strong relationships across [its] broker network”.

“We’re thrilled she has agreed to continue in the role, he said.

Mr Waldron concluded: “Today’s announcements showcase the strength of our internal talent pool and the quality of our leadership. Aaron, Emma and Sally are all familiar faces for our broker network and bring extensive knowledge of our business and the industry, and will allow the business to continue its great momentum.
