LMG raised $57k in Movember

by Reporter11 minute read

Brokers in the Best Interest Mates community have raised $28,500 for men’s health charity Movember – a figure that was matched by the aggregation group.

Major aggregator LMG has revealed that its Best Interest Mates members – an LMG broker community that aims to tackle the stigma of men’s mental health with fitness or a coffee followed by non-work-related discussions – raised $28,500 in donations for the Movember foundation.

The charity – which raises funds and awareness to support men facing mental health challenges, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer – encourages men to take part in its annual fundraising activity Movember by taking sponsorships to grow a moustache (or a ‘mo’) over the month of November.

At the LMG Growth Summit, held in the Gold Coast in November, it was revealed that brokers had raised $28,500 for their efforts.

Some of the brokers who had grown a moustache over the month then took part in an on-stage shave in front of 350 attendees of the Best Interest Mates breakfast at the summit.

At the event, LMG executive chairman Sam White revealed that the aggregator would match the amount, taking it to $57,000.

Speaking of the fundraiser, Best Interest Mates president Leigh Tsoumerkas said: “Best Interest Mates is the newest community at LMG and this was our first time raising funds for Movember.

“I’m ecstatic at the response it’s received from our businesses and their generosity – it’s been inspiring.

“Best Interest Mates isn’t just about exercise. It’s about sitting down, having a coffee, talking about life and how everyone is coping away from work. We’re certainly not talking about best interest[s] (duty) compliance.”

LMG executive chairman Sam White added: “This is an awesome moment for us: the first time our LMG community had come together as one and the first time we’ve participated in Movember with Best Interest Mates.

“Men’s mental health is a major issue in society and our industry is certainly not immune.

“I’ve been inspired by how the Best Interest Mates community has come together in such a short time and excited at what this community will do for brokers and the wider cause going forward.”

During the LMG Growth Summit, the Best Interest Mates community also heard from Melbourne Football Club coach Simon Goodwin, as he discussed how to create a winning mindset and culture.

Revealing how he used leadership and culture to transform the Demons from a ‘broken club’ into the 2021 AFL Premiers, he outlined how he encourages all stakeholders in the club to be TRUE (truth, respect, unity, and excellence) to themselves and other.

Mr Goodwin added that if his coaching group and senior players are “positive and optimistic, bringing their best self to work and are inspiring, that’s how your staff and players will be.”
