The Australian Father’s Day Council and The Shepherd Centre have named Aussie Home Loan's executive chairman John Symond as the 2012 Australian Father of the Year.

While best known for his work in the mortgage broking space, the father of two is also involved in numerous charities including Jeans for Genes, Sydney Children's Hospital, the Children’s Medical Research Institute and Friends of St Vincent’s Private.
“I believe all children need a fair start in life, which is why a lot of my philanthropy work is focused on organisations that assist disadvantaged children,” Mr Symond said.
Australian Father’s Day Council chairman Maurice Newman said Mr Symond is a fine example of an Australian Father of the Year.
“He has a strong commitment to both his children, which continues to this day, and has been able to combine his fatherhood responsibilities with his professional achievements,” Mr Newman said.
