Almost one third of all Australians said they would pull up stumps and relocate interstate if it meant they would be better off financially.

According to the latest ING DIRECT Financial Wellbeing Index, 31 per cent of Australians said they would move to save money.

Of those that said they were happy to relocate for their own financial benefit, 46 per cent said they would move to Queensland.

New South Wales came a close second, with 40 per cent saying they would relocate to the eastern state.

“It’s apparent from the results that many households are focused on financial security and are willing to move for a better life,” ING DIRECT chief executive Vaughn Richtor said.

“The key driver for relocating is the prospect of earning a higher salary - nominated by 32 per cent of those who’d consider a move.

“The chance to enjoy a better work/life balance ran second, securing 30 per cent of the vote.”
