Contrary to media reports Specialist Mortgage is not one of the four groups that will be joined in a Macquarie Bank backed merger.

William Lockett, Specialist Mortgage’s managing director contacted Mortgage Business to dismiss widespread rumours that his brokerage is one of the aggregation groups that the bank has brought together.

“We would like to respond to the false comments made last week regarding our involvement in a new national mortgage brokering company,” Mr Lockett told Mortgage Business on Friday.

“Specialist Mortgages is not merging with any other companies and nor do we intend to.”

Industry speculation surrounding Macquarie Bank’s move into aggregation has been rife over the last few months.

Last week, the Herald Sun’s BusinessDaily said Macquarie Bank was set to take a 'strategic investment' in a new mortgage broking company.

According to the daily, the other groups were identified as National Brokers Group, The Mortgage Professionals and The Brokerage.
