A New South Wales police officer is facing 89 charges over an alleged mortgage fraud racket, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Detective George Kahlia is alleged to have produced fraudulent tax returns and group certificate documents over the past seven years, scamming hundreds of thousands of dollars from the ANZ bank, other financial institutions and civilians.

Mr Kahlia is due to face court in December.

In a second home loan scam, specialist officer and fraud squad detective Rafiq Ahmed was given a 12 month good behavior bond for his role in a mortgage fraud case.
