An ASX-listed mortgage firm has raised over $50,000 for a disadvantaged community at its annual conference.

Centrepoint Alliance hosted its Hands Across the Water conference recently – an initiative aimed to make a difference to the lives of underprivileged Thai children and their communities.

This year saw brokers, accountants, product providers, and financial and risk advisers shell out a combined $54,524 for the cause.

“Giving back to the community is always a key part of any Centrepoint initiative,” Centrepoint managing director John de Zwart said.

Hands Across the Water was first developed by Australian police forensic specialist Peter Baines following the Boxing Day tsunami that hit Thailand shores in 2004.

“The work that Peter Baines and the Hands Across the Water team do is incredible, and the fact that we can make a difference is very humbling,” Mr de Zwart said.

“Every year I think, 'this conference can’t get any better, surely' – and every year it does.”
