The decision by Tasmania’s government to extend its grant for first home builders will entice Australians to relocate to the island state, according to the Housing Industry Association (HIA).
HIA executive director Rick Sassin said the industry body welcomes Tasmania’s continuation of its $20,000 First Home Builders Boost, noting that it will make building and owning a first home within reach for those who otherwise may not have been able to secure the funds to do so.

“The extension of the $20,000 grant will also sweeten the deal for any of those people looking to relocate back to Tasmania to build their first home,” Mr Sassin said.
“It is important for the stimulation of our economy to encourage people to come back to Tasmania, and we believe that the announcement by the government to extend the $20,000 grant will assist in enticing people to relocate and settle back in Tasmania.
“Last year saw strong growth in Tasmania with 2,800 new home starts and, with this announcement by the government, we are likely to see this trend continue which will further add confidence in the building industry in Tasmania.”
