My Business Health, a web portal established by the ASBFEO for small-business owners, has created a dedicated section for small businesses affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

My Business Health was established as part of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) service.

Ombudsman Kate Carnell said My Business Health offers information to small-business owners to assist them during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which is having ripple effects through the economy and has already resulted in hundreds of thousands of job losses.

The hub includes the latest information on government support measures and assistance with employer obligations, finances, available government payments, loans and tax. The portal includes materials to help those affected manage their mental health, too.

“Small businesses are in a world of pain right now, with many forced to close their doors and others fighting to survive,” Ms Carnell said.

“Many of these small-business owners will be too busy in their efforts to stay afloat to realise the toll it’s taking on their mental health.”

Ms Carnell said the ASBFEO has been flooded with stories about small businesses being annihilated by the ripple effects of coronavirus.

She highlighted that small-business owners can also now access resources from mental health organisations, including Beyond Blue, Lifeline and Everymind, that specifically deal with the impacts of the coronavirus.

Ms Carnell assured small-business owners that, despite the challenges that lay ahead, it would be temporary.

“There will come a day when our lives and livelihoods return to normal,” Ms Carnell said.

“But during the coming weeks and months, find ways to work on your business – consider the changes you can make to adjust to this new environment if possible – and be kind to yourselves.”

“Try to take time out for your wellbeing because your business ultimately depends on it,” she added.

If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulty during this time, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636.
