Facebook launches SME grants program

The social media giant has commenced processing applications for its new SME grants program.

Earlier this year, Facebook announced a US$100 million ($134.7 million) grants program as part of its response to the COVID-19 crisis, aimed at supporting up to 30,000 eligible small businesses in more than 30 countries, including Australia.

Facebook has revealed that applications for the grants program are now officially open and will close on 22 September.

To be eligible for the grants, small businesses must:

  • have between two and 50 employees
  • have been in business for over a year
  • have experienced challenges due to COVID-19
  • be in or near a location where Facebook operates

Small businesses in Australia can submit their application between 16-22 September 2020.

Facebook is the latest private sector firm to offer grants to businesses affected by COVID-19.

In May, global customer relationship management solutions provider Salesforce partnered with the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia to launch 67 Salesforce Care Small Business Grants in Australia.

The Salesforce program ran from 25 May to 1 June 2020 and offered $10,000 grants to ease cash flow pressures faced by small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
