According to The Adviser’s latest sentiment survey, 23.8 per cent of brokers believe investors will be the most active sector this quarter – up 6.5 per cent on last quarter.
While 52.4 per cent of respondents still believe refinancers will continue to be the most active market segment, this percentage has dropped considerably since last quarter – falling 18.8 per cent.
APM chief economist Andrew Wilson told The Adviser that brokers will start to see a real increase in the number of investors entering the market.
Mr Wilson said investors have waited on the sidelines long enough and are ready to make their mark on the property market once again.
“If you look at the stats, the number of housing commitments for investors fell right off at the end of last year. However, I now expect this to turn around,” Mr Wilson said.
“Investors are starting to get a sense that we have hit the bottom of the property market. They understand that prices will soon begin to rise and they are keen to snap up a bargain while they can.
“For the past few months, the investor traffic light has been flashing red – however, it is about to turn green very soon.”
