Commenting on the news, St George general manager of mortgage broking Clive Kirkpatrick said Mr Milburn will be key to the lender's subsequent success.
St George is a 'heritage brand' in NSW and Mr Kirkpatrick believes the bank "punch[es] above our weight" in the state.
"I think with Aaron's skills he can take us to a new level as well," he said.
"At the moment, NSW is about 50 per cent of my flows. So it is a key role for me and a key role for St George."
Mr Kirkpatrick says Mr Milburn is well liked by brokers and aggregators, but he is also a force to be reckoned with as a sales manager.
"Aaron has a great reputation, not only with brokers but also with the aggregators," he said.
"What I liked, as I've watched him, is he is obviously a professional, he builds great relationships but he can also be a very tough sales manager and can drive a sales force beyond what they think they can achieve."
