Mortgage broker Jason Meares, brother of high profile model Jodhi Meares, was found guilty of assaulting an undercover police officer by a Sydney court yesterday, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The incident, which took place outside Kings Cross strip bar Bada Bing on August 11, occurred when two plain clothes officers broke up an argument between two “business associates” of Mr Mears.

The officers alleged an abusive Mr Mears began "shoving" detective sergeant Michael Keegan who told the court he"feared for his saftey".

Mr Mears claimed that the police officers did not identify themselves: “I thought they were drug dealers or a guy pimping his prostitute and… feared for my friends,” he said.

Mr Meares was fined $500 and had a conviction recorded.

According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald from November 2005, Mr Meares was formerly the business partner of Brendan McMahon – the financier and mortgage broker convicted for mutilating to death 17 rabbits and a guinea pig.
