Fraudulent broker turns to hit man for help

A mortgage broker from America’s South Philadelphia has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison and fined more than US$5 million (A$6.3 million) after being found guilty of fraud and murder-for-hire.

Mahn Huu “Bruce” Doan was found guilty of 195 fraudulent real estate transactions where he borrowed or used fictitious identities, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday.

Almost every loan was in or due to be in foreclosure, the prosecutors found, with losses likely to exceed US$6 million (A$7.5 million).

In an uncanny revelation, Mr Doan was also found to have tried to hire a hit man to kill two persons and maim a third – two plaintiffs who were suing Mr Doan as well as a lawyer.

The plot backfired when it turned out the man Mr Doan was trying to hire was a cooperating federal witness who secretly recorded their conversations.
