Brokers should set time aside each week to work on their business, one of the nation’s elite business writers has claimed.
The Adviser’s Young Broker of the Year, Anthony Alabakov, said it is important for all brokers, regardless of whether they are running a large organisation or a one-man band, to take time to work on their business rather than in it.

“Each week, you should come up with an activity plan that stipulates the various actions you need to take within that week to make sure you are doing the fundamentals,” Mr Alabakov said.
“It is easy to get carried away with writing and settling loans, but we all need to take the time to work on the business. I think it is a good idea to take yourself into the boardroom or to the coffee shop for a couple of hours each week to see how the business is going.
“In my business, I have always believed it is important to step back from the business, turn the phone off and really take the time to understand where your business is going and where you want it to go.”
