Victoria’s third-party mortgage industry turned out in force last night to recognise the state’s top brokers and brokerages at the inaugural Better Business Awards, with one group stealing the show.

The brokerage’s Seuj Barua received the award for Best Newcomer, based on strong broker business metrics matched with a solid submission, while colleague Mark Davis claimed the award for Best Integrated Offering as well as the top award on the night, Broker of the Year.
Jim Hall, publisher of The Adviser, said the Australian Lending & Investment Centre is a brokerage that sets the standards for best practice and a company that the industry’s brokers should look to emulate.
“They’re a professional, corporate outfit that’s created a scalable business model that will ensure strong commission revenues but also client satisfaction. This will drive current, new, repeat and referred business – the fuel that drives a broker’s business,” he said.
Held at Melbourne’s Crown Casino, the Better Business Awards are a new initiative of The Adviser designed to emphasise the local nature of mortgage broking.
“This is the first universal state-based awards program for the industry,” Mr Hall said. “We’ve committed to championing businesses that perform on a local level and these awards arm brokers with accolades to connect and engage their local communities.
“A Better Business Award bears testament to professionalism, passionate customer servicing and business success.”
Last night’s Melbourne event was the first in a five-state national road show being held on consecutive Thursdays in February and March.
Sydney is the next stop (27 February), followed by Adelaide (6 March), Brisbane (12 March) and with the final event to be held in Perth (20 March).
As well as the strong performance by the Australian Lending & Investment Centre, several other groups also fared well at the awards.
Anthony Alabakov from My Mortgage Freedom scored the award for Best Residential Broker; Loan Gallery for Best New Office; Foster Ramsay Finance for Best Marketing; and Empower Wealth Mortgage Advisory for Best Customer Service/Satisfaction.
