An Aussie mortgage broker is gearing up to represent Australia at the 2016 summer Paralympic Games.

Brad Scott of Aussie Victoria Park will compete in middle-distance running at next year’s games, which are set to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 27-year-old from Bunbury took up running in 2006 and recently picked up a silver medal at the Athletics World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

His other titles include a silver medal in the men’s 800 metres at Beijing in 2008 as well as a silver and bronze medal at London in 2012.

Mr Scott trained as a mortgage broker in September 2014 and now balances his training schedule while working at Aussie Victoria Park alongside owners Shaun Brodison and Jay Drummond.

“There are a lot of similarities between mortgage brokering and competing in athletics,” Mr Scott said.

“They are both similar in that you get back exactly what you put in. You can really only succeed if you have built a solid foundation in your training and have a really good support team behind you.

“I’m fortunate to work with two great brokers and have learnt a lot over the past year seeing how they handle day-to-day business. They have given me a lot of confidence and mentoring and the support from head office has been incredible – they really look after you, and that’s one of the great traits of Aussie.”
