A mortgage broker in the UK has been jailed for three years and nine months for his role in a 2.2 million pound (A$3.9 million) scam that included fraud and witness intimidation.

Operating from his office in Gateshead, 54 year old Martin Watson has admitted to charges of conspiracy to obtain money transfers by deception, intimidation of witnesses and preventing the course of justice.

Charges specifically related to Watson’s inflation of clients’ salaries and earnings to obtain more than 20 mortgages.

His 51 year old cohort and accountant associate Paul Robertson will also see 12 months behind bars for his role in the scam.
