A mortgage broker has been charged with 27 counts of fraud.

According to a recent police report, a 29 year old mortgage broker is alleged to have doctored several mortgage applications valued at more than $17 million between December 2009 and June 2010.

The man was arrested following an investigation by the Harbourside Local Area Command.

The Sydney-based broker has been accused of creating fraudulent payslips and other documents in an attempt to prove credit worthiness, without the informed consent of the applicants.

The man, who has been granted conditional bail, is expected to appear before North Sydney local court on 10 August.
