Getting a mortgage online is the new norm. To meet demand, Lendi is expanding and recruiting for 50 new broker roles.

COVID-19 and social distancing have impacted our lives in ways we never could have imagined. It has also given rise to a new mindset among Australian households. With so much uncertainty, households are more diligent in managing their finances and more borrowers want to definitively know they have the most affordable loan package. The notion of apathy among borrowers is fast dissolving.

At Lendi, the team of brokers has submitted 67 percent more loan applications over the three months to the end of June when compared to the same period last year. More than 85 percent of these submissions were refinance applications by owner occupiers and investors looking to get a better deal and reduce their interest repayments.

The increased uptake of digital processes has brought new productivity gains which have seen Lendi’s brokers meet with 50 percent more customers each month since March.

Nonetheless, Sebastian Watkins, Chief Operating Officer at Lendi believes there is untapped potential in the refinance market.

“This more proactive mindset among customers, coupled with the record low rates and easier online processes is driving more people to refinance,” he said. “Typically, in Australia around 300,000 owner occupiers refinance each year, 2020 may be the year that number also reaches a new record.”

To meet this growing demand for home finance, Lendi is expanding and actively recruiting for another 50 mortgage brokers to join the team as home loan consultants.

“Social distancing will be part of professional and personal lives for some time but by doing things digitally, we are able to open up more opportunities for our home loan consultants,” said Mr Watkins. “Not only can they meet with more customers, they can work flexibly and live anywhere while still servicing customers all around Australia.”

“Our central support and marketing team provides our home loan consultants with up to 20 qualified customer appointments each month so they can set their own schedule and focus on what they love doing,” he added.
