Traineeship Management Australia (TMA) launched the year-long Diploma in Financial Services (Finance and Mortgage Broking Management) this month, with a view to creating a more professional, proficient industry.
The program encompasses Certificate VI and ASIC Tier 2 General Advice requirements, along with a wide range of what it calls ‘soft competencies’ such as customer service, sales skills and para-broking.
Students will also work with The Mortgage Academy to settle at least three loans under the supervision of experienced broking practitioners before receiving their diploma.
Scott Donnelly, managing director of TMA, said the program would provide new brokers with not only the relevant qualifications but also a practical understanding of the end-to-end process of lending.
“This diploma is not simply about the qualification but more so the educational and practical experiences which sits behind it.
“The program is by far the most robust in the market, covering the much neglected but critical soft skill competencies and the practical know-how of being a successful mortgage broker,” he said.
The diploma course is initially being offered out of Melbourne but TMA expects to be running the program in other states as of next year.
