Associations announce changes to national award ceremonies

The FBAA has postponed its national conference and awards to November, while the MFAA has moved its national awards online, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The two largest broker associations, the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) and the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA), have both announced changes to their upcoming national awards, which were both due to be held as physical events later this month.

FBAA National Industry Conference

The Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) was originally intending to hold its 2021 National Industry Conference, as well as its Gala Dinner & Awards of Supremacy, at the Sea World Resort on the Gold Coast on 30 July.

However, due to the current COVID-19 outbreaks, which has sent several cities into lockdown and closed several state borders, this has now been postponed until Friday, 5 November 2021.

FBAA managing director Peter White AM noted that the event typically draws around 1,000 people from across Australia. However, the uncertain situation has led the association to make the decision to postpone the event to later this year.

He said: “This has been forced upon us due to current national COVID lockdowns and the uncertainty this brings.

“We don’t know what the situation will be with COVID and state borders [by 30 July], and we must always act in the interests of your health and safety, as well as ours,” Mr White said to members.

Noting the move to the new November date, he added: “After the last 18 months, I think the gala dinner might just be what we need to end 2021.”

Those who have registered will be transferred to the new date, the FBAA has said.

MFAA National Excellence Awards 2021

The MFAA has changed its upcoming National Excellence Awards 2021 to a virtual event.

The awards, which was due to be held as a face-to-face event in Sydney on Thursday, 22 July, will now be broadcast virtually due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in NSW’s capital, which has resulted in a two-week lockdown and tightened restrictions.

The MFAA awards, which will be hosted by television presenter and journalist Melissa Doyle at 5.30pm on Thursday 22nd, will be “an hour of entertainment online” to recognise the diverse talent in the finance broker industry, according to the association website.

More than 100 members of industry are National Awards finalists, with winners to be announced in the broadcast event on 22 July.
