The show’s premise follows a group of single mothers and fathers being matched up with potential partners by their adult children.
The 20-year veteran in the mortgage broking space - who opened his own business in 2016 after a career at Aussie Home Loans - sat down with The Adviser to talk about his experience on the show.
Mr Uhlich told The Adviser that he decided to go on the show with his daughter Chloe following a suggestion from a “friend of a friend”.
“[They] came across my Instagram page and said I should go and do this TV show and I thought it was a joke!” Mr Uhlich said.
“But after they explained it and maybe I wasn’t sane at the time, I thought it would be good. I like to challenge myself and always push boundaries on everything I do and [this show] was an opportunity," he said.
Mr Uhlich reminisced that after he finished an accountancy degree and left school, he had a stint in acting for a couple of years, thinking it was a “good opportunity to see how [TV shows] work” and to give his daughter - who appears on the show alongside him - some exposure.
“I wanted to help her out as well, so that was some extra motivation,” he said.
My Mum, Your Dad is currently in its second season, with four episodes aired so far. The last episode featured the show's first elimination of the season, with some new parents entering the fray.
On his experience with the show so far, Mr Uhlich humorously remarked: “It’s not so great at the moment because I’m the villain or the bad guy, but I guess that’s life!
“I can’t really do much about how it’s edited, but that’s the nature of the beast, so that’s fine."
“When we first started, I remember my daughter and I being absolutely terrified. We were waiting in lockdown waiting to go in and I remember just being so nervous.
“I was the last person to go in, so while it was scary, I quite liked the feeling of being out of my comfort zone. You don’t get to experience something like this often in life and I really enjoyed the excitement and everything else that goes with that.”
He further said the getting into the routine of filming presented a challenging adjustment.
“I’m quite into my own routine, I get up at 3 o’clock every morning, I work and then I go the gym, I like to keep it strict,” he said.
“Then all of a sudden, you’re in a house with strangers and you’re filming until 12–1 o’clock in the morning and you have to be up at 5 or 6 am to do it all again. It was difficult for me, but still an amazing challenge.”
My Mum, Your Dad airs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
