Twenty top performers in the Queensland broking industry were chosen as winners this year, including the recipient of the coveted Broker of the Year award.

The 11th annual Better Business Awards 2024 – run in partnership with NAB – was held on Thursday night (7 March) at Sofitel Brisbane where the top-performing professionals and businesses in the mortgage and finance industry were recognised for their achievements.
The awards championed brokers and brokerages that provided stellar customer service and worked in the best interests of their clients, along with loan administrators, business development managers (BDM), mentors, industry thought leaders, and wellness advocates.
Hundreds of members of the broking industry attended the awards to cheer their colleagues and network with industry leaders.
Australian comedian and satirist Mark Humphries assumed emcee duties.
Individual broking awards
A total of 20 winners were selected this year out of 145 finalists in Queensland, with all eyes on who would receive the prestigious Broker of the Year award.
Mark Davis, director at the Australian Lending and Investment Centre (ALIC), was named this year’s Best Residential Broker award winner and was the recipient of the top Broker of the Year prize (given to the highest-scoring individual broker winner).
The Best Customer Service (Individual) award was given to Kelso Finance Mortgage director and founder Sandy Kelso.
This year’s Editor’s Choice award was given to Social Financial director and finance broker Tommy Anderson.
Momentum Media’s mortgages managing editor Annie Kane said Anderson was to be celebrated for his dedication not only to his clients and ensuring their mortgage journeys are as seamless as possible, but to the broking industry as a whole – noting his position as the FBAA’s Queensland state counsellor.
Green Finance Group’s James Kelder was named the Best Finance Broker while the Best Regional Broker award went to Christopher Wilson, director and senior mortgage broker at Sunshine Coast Financial Solutions.
Pave Financial Solutions founding director Patrick Johnston was given the New Broker of the Year in Queensland this year.
Brokerages, offices commended for their efforts
The awards shone a spotlight on the achievements of several brokerages across metropolitan and regional Queensland for their achievements.
The Best Finance Brokerage (Office) award was presented to STAC Capital (headed by managing directors Dale Sparke and Mark Trayner), while the Best Boutique Non-Franchise Office award was conferred upon Ewan Ramsey’s brokerage Ramsey Property Wealth.
Loan Market Stephanie Thomas (with mortgage broker Stephanie Thomas at the helm) received the Best Franchise Office trophy this year.
The recipient of the Best Customer Service (Office) award was Yellow Brick Road Home Loans Milton (run under branch principal and mortgage broker Suzy Macdonald).
Go Mortgage (helmed by principals Xavier and Kylie Quenon) received the Best Regional Office award and Kelly Brothers Finance (steered by brothers Steve and Tom Kelly) took home the Best New Office trophy.
BDMs, loan administrators win trophies
The Better Business Awards recognised the vital support provided by BDMs and loan administrators to enable brokers to write loans for their clients with ease.
The Best Lender BDM (Bank) award was bestowed upon NAB BDM Ben San Martin, while senior BDM Heidi Hayward walked away with the Best Lender BDM (Non-Bank) trophy.
Rounding out the BDM award winners was AFG partnership manager Ross McDougall, who was given the Best Aggregator BDM award.
Gregory Hall, operations manager at Action Finance, celebrated as he won the Best Loan Administrator award.
Broker industry thanked for giving back
Several members of the broking industry were acknowledged for their ongoing efforts to propel the industry either through their mentorship, thought leadership, or other initiatives.
Success and Broker owner Ruan Burger had two reasons to celebrate this year, as he won both the Industry Thought Leader of the Year and the Mentor of the Year awards.
Loan Market Edge mortgage broker Maddie Walton was commended for focusing on wellness in the broking industry, taking home the Wellness Advocate of the Year trophy.
The Best Community Engagement Program award was given to Preston Point Capital (run by managing director Shelley McGinty).
