An initiative of Southern Cross Broker Network, more than 20 brokers will take on representatives from Australia’s major banks in an AFL game which will raise money for the Peter Hughes Burn Foundation.
Speaking to The Adviser, organiser of the event and managing director of Southern Cross Broker Network, Damian Condon, said the support from both brokers and the banks has been tremendous.
“We have been overwhelmed by the interest in this event,” he said.
“I had the idea last year, but only started putting the wheels in motion less than three months ago. In that time, we have had a number of sponsors come on board including Genworth, ING DIRECT, Westpac, Pepper, and Australian First Mortgage.”
In addition to sponsor support, Mr Condon said he had also received a lot of interest from potential players.
“Everyone I spoke to wanted to get involved in the game. While each side can only have a certain number of players, I do encourage anyone who didn’t get the chance to play to come down to Medibank Stadium in Peth at 1pm and watch the game unfold,” he said.
Also taking part in the game are some former AFL superstars including Wayne Carey, Matt Carr and Kevin Caton.
