Broker business to receive spring boost

The vigorous spring selling season has well and truly sprung for the industry, with brokers reporting increased borrower activity.

Speaking to The Adviser, Aussie’s Ross Le Quesne said his business activity had increased of late and was hopeful spring would continue to deliver strong results for him and his team.

“I have seen a pick-up in activity over the last few weeks,” he said.

“Interest rates are low, fixed rates are the most competitive I have seen in some time and yields are strong – all of these things are encouraging potential buyers to look at their options,” he said.

“I think business will continue to be strong over the next few months in the lead up to Christmas. Fixed rates are so low at the moment – some of the banks are offering fixed rates well below 6 per cent, so this should generate some interest.”

“We have had a good year – business is up 33 per cent over the last financial year and I am hopeful this will continue.”

But Mr Le Quesne is not the only broker enjoying increased business activity.

Redconcierge’s Sarah Wells told The Adviser at a recent roundtable in Sydney that she was being forced to work “16 hour days” to keep up with the amount of work that was coming through her door.

“I am incredibly busy at the moment. In fact, I am so busy that I am seriously considering adding to my team to stop me from burning out,” she said.

“It is great to be busy, but it is not possible to work 16 hour days every day.”

Ms Wells and Mr Le Quesne’s comments are supported by new statistics reported by The Adviser’s Elite Business Writers.

According to the new ranking, business levels are up, with more brokers than ever before writing over $100 million within a 12 month period.

Almost 50 per cent of the elite business writers said the vast “majority” of their business was coming from refinancers – suggesting the low interest rates currently on offer are luring borrowers back into the market.
