The country’s best performing mortgage brokers have now been ranked and revealed in The Adviser's Elite Business Writers 2012, with Intelligent Finance’s Justin Doobov taking out the top spot.
Based in Sydney's eastern suburbs, Mr Doobov settled more than $130 million in residential mortgages and more than $180 million in other business including insurance and commercial mortgages.
1st Street’s Jeremy Fisher, also from Sydney's eastern suburbs, performed incredibly well, taking out the second position, while Rate Detective Home Loans’ Warren Dworcan from Perth rounded out the top three.
Commenting on this year's Elite Business Writers, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s executive general manager third party and mobile banking, Kathy Cummings, said it was pleasing to see so many brokers write incredibly impressive volumes “regardless of the slow credit growth in our market”.
“Over the last 12 months, Australia’s mortgage brokers have proven just how resilient they are. They have continued to adapt to the implementation of licensing and legislation and the enhanced education requirements, including the Diploma,” she said.
Mr Doobov said much of his success could be attributed to the fact that he never takes no from a lender.
“We always look for a unique angle to get the lender on board with wanting to approve our client’s loan,” he said.
“This may involve work shopping a loan with the credit department before a loan is submitted or even spending a day at a client's work to get a more in-depth understanding of their business so that we can explain the merits of the deal in more detail to the credit department of the lender.”
Mr Doobov went on to say that while the market was tight, opportunities are still abundant for brokers.
“There has never been more business for brokers in the market than now. We add so much value to a client's purchase or refinance, saving a client money on a low interest rate is only the start of what we can do,” he said.
“There are opportunities everywhere you look. Whether the market is going up, down or sideways, people still need a loan and they need our assistance to help them through the maze of options out there.”
To see the full list of Australia's Top 50 Elite Business Writers look out for the November issue of The Adviser hitting desk later this week.
