The week-long course, launched in 2011, has given many MFAA members a structured learning pathway to develop their professional skills, expand their businesses, better manage their existing team and mentor new industry talent.
The program was also a finalist and was recognised as being among the best implemented blended learning initiatives in Australia at the 2012 National Training Excellence Awards, run by the Australian Institute of Training and Development.
MFAA chief executive Phil Naylor, said the Train the Mentor course gives brokers advice on how to motivate staff, on goal setting, business development, marketing, and business promotion.
“Our members play a valuable role in society, helping people identify the best options for one of the largest investments they will ever make, their own home or apartment,” Mr Naylor said. “This responsibility calls for an ongoing national program of professional training and mentoring and our course is a key part of this support strategy.”
According to Mr Naylor, participants receive extensive support materials, access to other mentors and the dedicated MFAA online portal and tools for training sessions.
All participants are awarded 12 continuing professional development hours per year when mentoring for the full year.
“Mentoring is an essential leadership skill,” he said. “In addition to managing and motivating people, it is also important that you can help others learn, grow and become more effective in their jobs. This course guides participants through all the key issues and skills needed before establishing a mentoring relationship.
“Mentoring can be a rewarding personal and professional experience. Participants can improve their leadership and communication skills, learn new perspectives and ways of thinking, advance their careers and gain a sense of personal satisfaction.”
