ASIC email a hoax

by Staff Reporter3 minute read

Brokers across the industry have received a hoax email claiming to be from ASIC targeting Choice Aggregation Services (Choice).

The fraudulent email was sent late Friday night from a webmail account that implied the sender was an ASIC Ombudsman. The sender urged brokers to “move your book elsewhere” suggesting that the CAS contract was “biased”.

Choice CEO Brendan O’Donnell told Mortgage Business that he was disappointed by the actions of what he described as a “very small minority” of the industry.

“Fraudulent and misleading emails only serve to…undermine the professional reputation we are all working hard to build."

Choice is currently investigating the source of the email and will work with ASIC to identify the sender.
