ING Australia has announced the appointment of Dr John Laker to its board, effective immediately.

Dr Laker holds over 45 years of experience in the finance sector, which includes roles in the Commonwealth Treasury, the International Monetary Fund (Washington), the Reserve Bank of Australia (assistant governor, financial system) and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (chair).
Dr Laker currently serves as chair of the board of the Banking and Finance Oath, deputy chancellor of the University of Technology Sydney, a member of the External Advisory Panel of the Australian Securities and Investment Commission and a director of Cancer Council NSW and Cancer Council Australia.
Dr Laker has also been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2008.
ING’s latest announcement follows its appointment of Glen Gibson to the role of head of third-party distribution.
Mr Gibson assumed his role on 5 November and reports to Melanie Evans, ING’s head of retail banking.
