Mr Knight said introducing national regulation and new standards is a vital step to ensuring all agents receive the correct level of education.
“To have a centralised regulation system is going to make a massive difference to the industry and to education standards,” he said.
“I feel this will put a lot of pressure on some of the suppliers that don’t necessarily provide the standards that they should. Once you have national regulation and national standards it’s much easier to ensure you get evenness and equality across all suppliers.”
The development mirrors, in some respects, the introduction of the regulated framework for the broking industry – as well as the debate around the minimum level of education required to operate as a broker.
Mr Knight is confident the real estate industry will embrace such changes: “We believe that this is the biggest issue that will affect agent quality and education,” he said.
