The number of banking and finance jobs fell consecutively over every month of 2008 to end down by close to 50 per cent since the beginning of the year, a job ads index showed on Friday.
According to the Olivier Job Index, the number of banking and finance jobs advertised on the internet fell once again in December, by 8.76 per cent seasonally adjusted.

This brought the total decline in the sector’s job advertising for 2008 - to 48.4 per cent.
Advertisements in the retail banking and mortgage sector were down 58.1 per cent in December compared to December 2007 although the rate of decline stabilised in December to just one per cent.
Total job advertisements for the national jobs market were down 22.98 per cent over the course of the year.
