The government will attempt to pass an amended version of its $42 billion stimulus package through the Senate this morning after it was rejected yesterday.
The package failed to make it through the Senate after Senator Nick Xenophon sided with the Coalition as a result of the government's rejection of his calls to fast track an already allocated $3.1 billion for the Murray-Darling Basin, The Sydney Morning Herald reported today.
A new version of the bill, which was passed by the lower house overnight, includes a reduction to cash handouts in place of environmental initiatives.
