Refund breaks into financial planning

Refund Home Loans has joined hands with Professional Investment Services (PIS) to add a full-service financial planning division to its business.

The new division will be called Refund Financial Planning and is said to make financial planning advice more affordable for customers.

“From a customer’s point of view, this partnership will allow them to receive affordable financial planning advice and in my experience the ideal time for customers to review their cover is when they are borrowing,” Mr Ormond said.

The financial planning arm currently has 40 planners on its books, but there are hopes to increase the number to over 100 within a month.

While the majority of consultants will specialise in one particular field - mortgage broking or financial planning, Mr Ormond said a number of his mortgage brokers were currently undertaking the necessary procedures to become qualified in both fields.

“As long as they have the necessary educational standards, I believe brokers can be successful planners as well,” he said.

“I do not endorse the two day financial planning courses and recommend that any interested brokers take the time to gain qualifications of the highest level.”
