A brokerage director has died saving his wife, award-winning broker Wendy Higgins and two friends from an avalanche while trekking in the Himalayas.
Sixty year-old Dean Higgins, co-director of Mortgage Choice Glenelg East franchise, spent six hours digging his wife Wendy Higgins and their two friends out of an avalanche on Mount Everest.

In a statement released to the Mortgage Choice franchise network, Michael Russell, CEO said: “It is with much sadness that I advise that… Dean Higgins, beloved husband of Wendy and father of Sara, was killed in an avalanche while trekking in Tibet. Three yak herders also sadly perished.
“While trapped under the ice and snow for six hours, Wendy has survived and is safely holed up down the mountain awaiting evacuation.”
Mr Russell said Mr Higgins will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
“For those who knew Dean, you will remember him as the most beautiful man who loved his family and was a constant support to Wendy and the business,” he said.
“Dean was quintessentially Mortgage Choice and will be sadly missed, both as a work colleague and a very dear friend.”
According to reports by mainstream media, Mr Higgins died of hypothermia.
