New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show job vacancies hit an eight-year low in the November quarter.
According to the latest data, the number of job vacancies in Australia fell in the three months to November by 1.7 per cent in seasonally adjusted terms.

While the survey was discontinued through 2009, the last time job vacancy data was this low was in November 2005.
There were 140,600 job vacancies in total in November 2013, according to the ABS, down from 143,100 in the August quarter.
The quarterly survey also showed there were 130,700 private sector job vacancies in November, down 0.6 per cent from August’s 131,500.
The number of public sector vacancies in November was 10,000, down 13.8 per cent from August’s 11,600.
