Managing director Janelle Rayner, who co-founded the business, said Barnes had gone from writing $10 million in home loans in its first year to $200 million today.
Barnes started with three staff operating out of a small Brisbane office. The company is now a 16-person business, with staff in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, she said.
Ms Rayner told The Adviser that Barnes had hired two BDMs in the past two months and was looking to recruit another BDM in Sydney.
“It’s nice to get to 20 years and feel like there’s still room to grow, and it’s at a time when I think the market is going to take off again and the general public is looking for alternatives,” she said.
“For a long time it was difficult for us to be as competitive as the banks, but we feel we can be now.”
Ms Rayner said Barnes had always relied on forming strong relationships with brokers because it had never dealt directly with borrowers.
“It’s really nice to see how much the brokers have grown over the years and how much responsibility they take for the customers,” she said.
