Average national rents took their sharpest annual rise in 18 years according to figures released by the ABS yesterday.
The average rent accross Australia's capital cities climbed by 1.6 per cent for the December quarter and 6.4 per cent for the year.

Hobart recorded the lowest rise in rents at 0.4 per cent and Perth the highest at 3.2 per cent.
