House prices rise in all capitals

House price indexes rose in all eight capital cities in the December quarter to a weighted average of 3.2 per cent, according to figures released by the ABS today.

Adelaide performed the strongest during the quarter, achieving an index of six per cent, followed closely by Brisbane at 5.4 per cent.

Data revealed that house price indexes also rose by a weighted average of 12.3 per cent over the 12 months from the December quarter in 2006.

Growth was particularly strong over the year in Brisbane (21.6 per cent), Adelaide (20.2 per cent) and Melbourne (18.1 per cent), while Perth achieved the smallest change of just 1.1 per cent.
