The Adviser's study tour will give you an up-close view of the economics of distribution, product delivery and serviceability in the UK as well as the regulatory and legislative environment – and how this can be adapted to our domestic market.
The theme of the FBAA’s recent 2016 National Tour was ‘Build Your Vision’, where a select group of industry speakers were on hand to discuss the latest issues affecting the industry.
Steve Weston of international banking fame was the VIP guest speaker and brought to the table more than 30 years’ experience in financial services worldwide. He is a highly respected figure in the international broking world.
Mr Weston was instrumental in establishing a trio of successful mortgage broking aggregators including PLAN, Choice and FAST. He oversaw more than 4,000 brokers and $130 billion in mortgage balances and it goes without saying he knows how to run a great business.
After returning from the UK, where he was CEO of mortgages at Barclays, Mr Weston gave brokers a glimpse of how the UK market has changed with the introduction of tighter regulation, how brokers have adapted to the new regime and what Australian brokers can learn from it.
The financial services industry is undergoing huge changes globally, with intermediaries set to grow their share of the market.
In the UK, brokers now write more than 70 per cent of all home loans, but this success didn’t happen by accident. I’ll be heading over to London in October to find out all about it.
I encourage local brokers to take advantage of this unique opportunity and join me on The Adviser’s UK study tour, where we will find out how we can position ourselves for growth in an ever-changing world.
In addition to understanding the impact of regulatory changes and how UK brokers fortified their businesses, the study tour will explore cross-selling strategies and sustainable business practices for brokers. It will also look at disruption in mortgage distribution and what might be around the corner for Australia.
