The initiative by Commercial Asset Finance Brokers Association of Australia, arranged through Women in Leadership Australia and conducted through the Australian School of Applied Management, aims to “unlock potential” and “address the gender imbalance in [the] industry”.
Five scholarships are available to women in each of the three key management levels:
- Experienced senior and executive leaders are eligible to apply for an $8,000 scholarship to assist their participation in the Advanced Leadership Program;
- Mid-level managers are eligible to apply for a $4,000 scholarship to assist their participation in the Executive Ready Program; and
- Early career managers are eligible to apply for a $3,000 scholarship to assist their participation in the Accelerated Leadership Performance Program.
The scholarships cover a portion of the cost of the course, but CAFBA has said that it will “endeavour to find sponsors to assist with the balance of the cost”.
Speaking to The Adviser’s Elite Broker podcast, CAFBA vice president Kathryn Bordonaro said: “[T]he scholarship program is not about skills, because these women have already got the skills as brokers.
“It’s about encouraging leadership and becoming more visible, because I strongly believe that if you can’t see it, you can’t be it. So, shining a light on the other women in the industry means that for new entrants coming in, their path will be easier.”
