Born on 21 February 1955 in Tasmania, Mr Martyn later moved to Queensland where he became an independent mortgage broker.
Based in Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Mr Martyn had been a member of Outsource Financial for the past seven years and was well known for his quick wit and love for the water.
Outsource Financial CEO Tanya Sale commented: “Don was well liked and respected in the industry. He was always the first to put up his hand to help any of the new entrants when he met them at any of the outsource events.
“Many of those mortgage brokers today that benefited from Don’s expertise will be ever grateful for his patience when they asked the same question 10 times,” she said.
Ms Sale added that Mr Martyn had a “quick wit” and a “lovable nature”, adding that his “life was on the water”.
She elaborated: “Don loved fishing, crabbing, socialising, supporting the Gold Coast Suns and was a lifelong member at the Southport Yacht Club.
“His beloved boat, Sea Hound 2, was his home and his prized treasure and a place where all his friends, family and work colleagues enjoyed many good times.”
Ms Sale recalled an occasion in which Mr Martyn had offered Sea Hound 2 as a wedding venue for one of Outsource Financial’s funders and “would not accept a penny for it… as long as he could be the Skipper”.
The Outsource Financial CEO said that Mr Martyn was a “valued member whose quick wit, lovable nature and stories about his house boat will be deeply missed within the Outsource family”.
“Our thoughts and best wishes are with his entire family,” she said.
Members of the industry who wish to celebrate Don Martyn’s life are being invited to a “Day for Don” at the Nerang All Sports Club on Saturday, 27 April at 2:00pm.
