Unemployment hits record low

by Staff Reporter3 minute read

The unemployment rate fell to a 33-year low in January of 4.1 per cent.

26,800 more people found work during the month, the number of unemployed persons falling by 13.9 per cent.

Interest rates rises seem to have done little to reduce demand for labour with the rate of jobs growth accelerating much faster than the RBA would like.

The RBA is hoping to slow job growth to 1.5 per cent however the latest data reveals annual growth in jobs of 2.7 per cent.
