Better Business Awards 2020: The Winners

We showcase the winners of the Better Business Awards 2020; the outstanding brokers, BDMs, support staff and offices that are leading the way

What a difference 12 months make. When we were hosting the Better Business Summit and Better Business Awards last year, this industry was in a drastically different climate. The royal commission final report had been released and with it, a swathe of recommendations that would have fundamentally changed the face of this industry. Then came the surprise result of the federal election and then followed some hard campaigning, petitioning and educating of the market around what mortgage brokers offer home buyers; competition, choice, and convenience.

Fast forward to February 2020 and the dust seemed to have (finally) settled. The mortgage broking industry has worked hard to ensure that competition is kept alive and has more clarity on its future. The guidance around what the incoming best interests duty looks like, interest rates are at record lows and first home buyers are flocking back to the market.

Given all of this positivity in the home buying market, the theme for the Better Business Summit this year was “Customer 20:20” and was all about keeping clients in sharp focus and delivering exceptional customer service to them to make this sector the strongest it can be in the year 2020.

Over the course of five weeks, The Adviser visited five states across Australia to deliver its Better Business Summit – partnered by NAB – that centred on customer service. From revealing the future trends in customer service, detailing how to have better conversations with your clients, outlining what the new home buyer looks like, exposing what mortgage borrowers have told us they REALLY want from the mortgage process – or bringing you advanced selling strategies to achieve amazing results – today is all about ensuring brokers remain the trusted advisers of choice.

Kicking off in Adelaide on 13 February, and continuing to Perth (20 February), Sydney (27 February), and Brisbane (5 March), before finishing in Melbourne (12 March), the summit was followed by the Better Business Awards, which showcased the dedication, passion and commitment brokers have for their customers.

Hundreds of submissions were received again this year and – while I was reading them to pick my Editor’s Choice award – I was struck by how many of them included heartfelt testimonials from mortgage borrowers advocating for their broker in a truly touching and sincere way.

Broker customers know that their broker works tirelessly – and push relentlessly – on their behalf to ensure that their dreams become a reality, and it is genuinely a beautiful thing to see the difference this industry is making to people’s lives.  Whether it is buying them the house their kids will take their first steps in, helping them start that business they’ve always dreamed of, dreams are being made. And brokers are having a hand in it each and everyday.

Several of the speeches made by the winners over the course of the awards paid homage to their families, clients, BDMs and teams for their support over a challenging year, and demonstrated just how much brokers give of themselves each and everyday.

Congratulations to all of the winners of the Better Business Awards 2020!

A word from NAB

As the bank behind brokers, NAB is delighted to be the principal partner of the Better Business Awards for the seventh year running. These important awards shine a light on how the industry is working hard to deliver the absolute best outcomes for Australian consumers. They are a chance to celebrate the very best in the industry, from brokers to lenders and aggregators and BDMs.

As we all know, mortgage broking is about developing strong, trusted and long-lasting relationships, and going above and beyond to help customers achieve their financial goals. It’s fair to say the finalists of the Better Business Summit Awards are all stand-outs in their field and set a high standard for business excellence. Industry change has remained a constant over the past year so it’s only right that the finalists are acknowledged for staying on top of regulatory developments that impact everyday Australians. As customer needs evolve, it’s fantastic to see that forward-thinking brokers are also embracing data and technology to adopt solutions that add real value to their customers.

The Better Business Awards offer a well-deserved opportunity for the mortgage broking industry to celebrate success, connect and network. But perhaps most importantly, they also offer inspiration for where we can all lift standards and continually raise the bar for the benefit of customers and our industry as a whole.
