Wages up but not out of control

Wage price growth stayed under control in the last quarter of 2007, ABS data revealed yesterday.

The national labour price index rose by 1.1 per cent for the December quarter 2007, bringing the annual rate of wage growth to 4.2 per cent.

While the growth in wages may add to inflationary pressures, it is unexpectedly short of a wage-price breakout.
