According to the company’s chief executive officer Louise Petschler, the day celebrates the achievements of credit unions all over the world.
Currently, more than 186 million people from 97 countries use credit unions for their financial needs.
“International Credit Union Day celebrates that for than 150 years, credit unions worldwide have proudly put people before profits in order to provide access to affordable financial services for all members,” Ms Petschler said.
“Credit unions are recognised as a force for positive economic and social change and have provided significant social and economic value in both developed and emerging nations,” Petschler said.
